AAOIFI Associate Trainer

Eligibility criteria for becoming an AAOIFI Associate Trainer

For an IFP to be recognized as an AAOIFI Associate Trainer, the IFP must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

Academic and / or professional qualifications

  1. have a postgraduate degree from a university recognized by a competent authority of higher education in the applicant’s respective country, or internationally, in a discipline related to the specified area of standard setting of AAOIFI (i.e., Shari’ah, accounting, auditing, governance, or ethics); or
  2. be a member of a relevant professional body (such as the accounting professional bodies that are IFAC members); and

Professional or relevant experience

  1. have at least 5 years of working experience with at least 3 years in a relevant specialized role such as the roles of implementing, supervising the implementation of, consulting, or full-time teaching, etc., of the AAOIFI standards, as evidenced by professional designation, job description, and / or previous high-profile assignments or projects; and

Market standing and contribution to industry

  1. be or have been involved in the standards development process as a member of the relevant technical board[1] of the AAOIFI or at least 1 working group; or
  2. have authored or co-authored and published a book chapter and / or at least 3 peer-reviewed research papers published in an AAOIFI’s journal or any other reputed, indexed journal. The book and the research paper should focus primarily on the subject-matter of AAOIFI standard; or
  3. furbish a testimonial from a high-ranking official demonstrating high-profile contribution to the advancement of AAOIFI standards, or Islamic finance industry in general, and

Other mandatory requirements

  1. be a CIPA[2] and / or a CSAA[3] fellow, or possess a certificate of completion for an AAOIFI workshop;
  2. have conducted at least 45 hours of training on a number of standards of specified area of standard setting of AAOIFI;
  3. have a career that primarily promotes Islamic finance if professionally affiliated with / employed by a conventional finance industry;
  4. be able to communicate verbally and in writing in any of the AAOIFI official languages[4] ;
  5. submit at least two recommendation letters from an IFP of higher standing attesting one’s practical expertise in the implementation, supervision of the implementation of, or the delivery of professional training in AAOIFI standards;
  6. submit at least two testimonials from the trainees who have received direct training from the IFP, attesting one’s proficiency in producing and delivering training content ; and
  7. pass the interview-test. The interview-test will be administered by an individual designated by the AAOIFI secretariat (usually an AAOIFI Master Trainer) who will primarily evaluate the IFP on three fronts: subject knowledge, training delivery, and content development.

Requirement for maintaining the AAOIFI Associate Trainer status

The title of AAOIFI Associate Trainer shall be valid for a period of 3 years and renewable for a further period of 3 years subject to the fulfillment of the following requirements:

  1. continue to be eligible for AAOIFI Associate Trainer;
  2. stay an active AAOIFI Associate Trainer by delivering at least 100 hours of professional training in a specified area of standard-setting of AAOIFI over a 3 year period;
  3. not have a single verified complaint against him from the trainees or other relevant stakeholders, which question or bring into dispute his competency and / or the moral character; and
  4. achieve a score of at least 70% on the AAOIFI trainer survey.
