Chairman

Mehmet Asutay is a Professor of Middle Eastern and Islamic Political Economy & Finance at the Durham University Business School; is the Director of the Durham Centre in Islamic Economics and Finance; the Director for MSc in Islamic Finance & MSc in Islamic Finance and Management programmes and also the Director of the Durham Islamic Finance Summer School. Mehmet’s teaching, research, publication, and supervision of research is all in Islamic moral economy/Islamic economics, Islamic finance and banking, Islamic political economy, Islamic governance and management and the Middle Eastern political economies. His articles on his research interest have been published in various international academic journals and professional magazines. He has also published and edited books on aspects of Islamic moral economy and Islamic finance. Mehmet is the Editor in Chief of the American Journal of Islamic Social Sciences; Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance Studies; Managing Editor of the Review of Islamic Economics; Associate Editor of the International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management. He is also the Honorary Treasurer of the IAIE (International Association for Islamic Economics).

Mr. Mughees Shaukat

Mughees Shaukat is Global Financial/Islamic Financial Strategist; Islamic Banking Advisor, Bank Nizwa, Oman; Fintech specialist, MIT, USA & Pioneer Head, Islamic Finance, CBFS; Central Bank of Oman. He is thought leader, prolific author, renowned public speaker & prominent contributor in local & global policy & strategic affairs. Under his leadership & global contributions, Mughees made CBFS into a global entity, winning GIFA award by the President Islamic Republic of Pakistan. He is also Awarded as "Fintech Leader of the Year" 2020 by Turkey & features on the front cover of a top International financial magazine as Global Personality, Strategist & Thought Leader.

He is a PhD scholar in Economics & Finance, specializing in Entrepreneurship & Policies for Entrepreneurial Ecosystems. While holding multiple strategic & advisory positions, Mughees is also the Vice Chairman of the AAOIFI, Education Board, Bahrain; Member, Society of Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE), France; Member of The Western Economic Association International (WEAI), USA, Member, International, select, Expert Panel, Central Bank of Bahrain on Islamic Profit Rate Bench Mark, Member of BLOCKCHAIN Society, Oman & Certified Shariah Adviser & Auditor, CSAA, AAOIFI, among other. He also holds MSc in Islamic finance, the IFQ U.K certification & number of other certifications in core areas of Finance & Islamic Finance. Mughees is a passionate contributor in New Age Fintech Finance & Islamic/Halal Finance, Regulatory Policies & Multiple Polar Global Economic System. His focus further include, Macro Economic Policies, Product Innovations, Entrepreneurship, Behavioural & Institutional Economics, Environmental Economics, Halal Industry, China Pakistan Economic Corridor-CEPC & Governance among other. Mughees has published over 50 articles & research papers &has so far delivered over 100 policy talks, Keynote Addresses, expert sessions, high level presentations, research& executive lectures, globally.

Dr. Abdulrahman Alrazeen

Dr. Abdulrahman Alrazeen is the assistant secretary general of Saudi Organization for Certified Public Accountants (SOCPA). Previously, he was an associate professor and chairman of the accounting department, at Imam university in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He also served as a member of the accounting standards committee of SOCPA for two terms.   He was the vice chairman and then the chairman of the First Instance Tax and Zakat Appeal Committee. Now, he is a member of the Tax Appeal Committee and a member of the Bankruptcy Commission in Saudi Arabia, and a member of the AAOIFI Accounting and Education Boards in Bahrain. Dr. Alrazeen received his Ph.D. in 1999 from Cardiff University, UK. He received his master in 1995 from Colorado State University. In the same year, he passed the CPA exam and was recognized as one of the top ten scorers for all the sections in the first attempt. Dr. Alrazeen published several articles, Arabic and English in local and international Journals.

Sh. Elhadi Elnahoui

Elhadi Elnahoui is a Senior Islamic Finance Specialist at IsDB. Elhadi has more than 30 years’ experience in Islamic banking and finance. He is holding 2 Master’s degree in banking and Finance and Islamic studies He is trainer and researcher in the area of Islamic finance. He has delivered a number of training courses on Islamic finance and published a number of articles and researches in Islamic finance. Elhadi used to be member of the AAOIFI sharia Board during the period 2015- 2019. He is currently member of the IFSB editing committee (Malaysia) and member of the BoD of Ebdaa Bank, Sudan Elhadi is fluent in the 3 languages: Arabic, French and English.

Mr. Khairul Nizam

Khairul Nizam is Chief Executive Officer of Finance Accreditation Agency (FAA), based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.   Established and supported by Central Bank of Malaysia and Securities Commission Malaysia, FAA provides independent accreditation and quality assurance services on academic, learning and training programs relating to finance as well as accreditation and competency assessment services for finance professionals – to support human capital development for the international finance industry. Khairul was previously Deputy Secretary General of Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), (AAOIFI) – the international organization responsible for development and issuance of standards on Shariah, accounting, auditing, ethics and governance for the global Islamic finance industry. Khairul served AAOIFI, based in Manama, Bahrain, for over 10 years in various positions. Prior to AAOIFI, Khairul was with Malaysia’s largest financial services group for over 10 years, and was Head of Islamic Banking in the group’s offshore banking arm. He also served in various areas of the group’s operations, including corporate banking, auditing, and international banking. Khairul Nizam graduated from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, and is a Certified Islamic Professional Accountant (CIPA).

Prof. Dr. M. Kabir Hassan

2016 Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Prize in Islamic Banking and Finance.  Professor Hassan received his BA in Economics and Mathematics from Gustavus Adolphus College, Minnesota, USA, and M.A. in Economics and Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA respectively. Professor Hassan is a financial economist with consulting, research and teaching experiences in development finance, money and capital markets, Islamic finance, corporate finance, investments, monetary economics, macroeconomics, Islamic banking and finance, and international trade and finance. Professor Hassan has done consulting work for the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, African Development Bank, Transparency International-Bangladesh (TIB), Islamic Development Bank, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Government of Turkey and many private organizations. Professor Hassan has been elected a Board Member of Ethics and Governance Committee and Education Board of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for the Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI). Professor Hassan has over 350 papers [225 SCOPUS, 105 SSCI, 58 ESCI, 227 ABDC, 161 ABS] published as book chapters and in refereed academic journals  such as in the Review of Managerial Science, Journal International Money and Finance, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Journal of Financial Stability, Review of Financial Economics, Emerging Markets Review, Accounting Research Journal, Journal of Housing Research, Journal of Business Ethics, Pacific Basin Finance Journal, Journal of Financial Services Research, Financial Review, Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting, Journal of Economics and Finance, Global Finance Journal, World Development, Thunderbird International Business Review, African Development Review and Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship. The number of publications would put Professor Hassan in the top 1% of peers who continue to publish one refereed article per year over a long period of time according to an article published in Journal of Finance. Professor Hassan has also been cited as one of the most prolific authors in finance literature in the last fifty years in a paper published in Journal of Finance Literature. His publication record puts him among the top 5.6% of all authors who published in the 26 leading finance journals. He is among the top 5% authors according to number of Journal Pages at RePAC/IDEAS. Professor Hassan is among the top three presenters in the Financial Management Annual Meetings during 1990-2013. He has won 26 Best Paper Awards from Academic Conference presentations. Professor Hassan has been honored by the fellow members of Academy of Economics and Finance for life-long contribution to teaching and research in 2016 and 2018 respectively. Professor Hassan has an H-index of 63 from Google Scholar. Professor Hassan has supervised 62 doctoral theses at the University of New Orleans and acted as External examiners for 49 dissertations from countries like Australia, New Zealand, USA, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Canada. Many of his students are now well placed in the academia (Department Chairs, Deans and Professors), government (Secretary, Under-Secretary and Central Bank Deputy Governor) and private sectors (CEO and CFO). Professor Hassan has evaluated promotion documents of many faculty members from the USA and abroad. Professor Hassan has numerous teaching awards for his outstanding teaching from the University of New Orleans and outside academic organizations. His teaching awards include Jamaica Executive MBA, JEMBA (2002, 2003, 2009), US EMBA (1999, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2015), Executive Masters in Health Care Management EMHCM (2002, 2003, 2015), Thompson-Reuters Outstanding Educator (2002, 2004, 2006), UNO College of Business Administration Professor of the Year (2001), UNO Favored Professor (1998), University of Nebraska-Lincoln Graduate Assistant Award (1990). He is co-author of Islamic Entrepreneurship (Routledge UK, 2010). Dr. Hassan has written the first textbook (co-authored with Dr Kayed and Dr. Oseni) on Islamic Finance that was published by Pearson in 2013. His book Handbook of Empirical Research on Islam and Economic Life was published in December 2016 by Edward Elgar Publishing Company. He coauthored with Ahcene Lahsasna and Rubi Ahmad “Forward Lease Sukuk in Islamic Capital Market: Structure and Governing Rules” published by Palgrave-Springer, New York in 2019. His another textbook “An Introduction to Islamic Finance” co-authored with Salman Sheikh and Selim Kayhan is to be published in 2020 by the World Scientific Press. Professor Hassan’s edited volume with Professor Mehmet Sarac on A frequent traveler, Dr. Hassan gives lectures and workshops in the US and abroad and has presented over 408 research papers at professional conferences and has delivered 184 invited papers/seminars. Mr. Moosa Khoory

Moosa Tariq Khoory is currently Head of Internal Sharia Audit at Dubai Islamic Bank and a member of AAOIFI Governance and Ethics Board, in addition to being​ a member of the Sharia Standards Committee (Dubai) reporting to AAOIFI’s Sharia Board. He is also a member in the Internal Sharia Supervisory Committee of Amlak Finance. Moosa is the Founder Chairman of the “Sharia Professionals Association”, the first of its kind in the UAE, where Sharia Departments of Islamic banks and financial Institutions in the UAE discuss the practical issues of their profession. Moosa holds Master’s Degree in Islamic Law & Legal Theory from University of Sharjah.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ayub

Prof. Muhammad Ayub is non-resident Editor of the AAOIFI’s Journal of Islamic Finance Accountancy (JOIFA). On permanent basis, he is serving as Director Research and Training at Riphah Center of Islamic Business, Riphah International University, Islamabad. He is also the Editor of their Journal of Islamic Business and Management (JIBM) (www.jibm.org). He has been the Jurisconsult at the Federal Shariat Court of Pakistan for hearing on Riba case. He served the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the Central Bank, for 28 years in areas of research in Islamic economics, Islamic banking and training in Islamic finance. His unique contributions to Islamic finance include ‘Islamic Banking Certificate Course’ being offered by SBP/NIBAF since 2005, and Islamic finance textbook book ‘Understanding Islamic Finance’  published by John Wiley and Sons from London  in 2007 that has been translated into Arabic, Turkish, Malaya Bhasa, Urdu and other languages. He also contributed over five dozen papers to various journals, a number of Chapters to edited books on Islamic economics and finance and presented many research papers in international conferences on Islamic economics and finance.

Dr. Necdet Sensoy

Necdet Sensoy graduated from Istanbul Academy of Economics and Commerce in 1977. He received his M.A. degree from the Institute of Accounting at the same Academy, and his Ph.D. degree from Marmara University. He became Associate Professor in 1994 and Professor in 2002. Having worked as a lecturer at Marmara University, Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences, Department of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Necdet Sensoy was appointed as a Member of the Auditing Committee of the Central Bank of Turkey on 1st May 2004. Retired from Marmara University in year 2006 and appointed as Deputy Rector at Istanbul Commerce University. Later as end of the year, elected as Board Member by the “General Assembly of the Shareholders” of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey. His academic field is accounting and finance. Interest areas are International Financial Reporting Standards and Accounting Theory. He has taught Accounting Theory Course at PhD program of Marmara University for over twenty years. His interest in Islamic Finance started while he was teaching “Accounting for Islamic Banks” course for four semesters in between 1994 to 1996 at International Islamic University Malaysia. He has served as member of the Board of Trustees of AAOIFI in between years 1993 and 1997. In November 2014 he is reelected and his service continues. He was chairman of the Audit Committee of the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILM) in between 2010 to 2017. His term as Board Member at Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey ended on April 30,2018. He returned back to Business Faculty of Istanbul Commerce University. He is Director of the Research Center on Islamic Economics and Economic Systems in Istanbul Commerce University.

Dr. Omar Zuhair Hafiz

Dr. Omar Hafiz is an associate professor of Islamic finance in King Abdulaziz university. He is A Saudi citizen born in Almadina in 1950 and got his Ph. D from Indiana University bloomington USA in 1981 and a bachelor degree in Islamic studies in 2005 from king Abdulaziz university.   He joined department of Economics in 1981 after graduation for Around 9 years where he served as chairman of the department and director of the first international research center in Islamic economics. in 1990 he left the university for working in Islamic Finance industry where he worked for Islamic Development Bank for around 15 years and for other Islamic finance and Takaful institutions for more than 10 years. He published some books in Arabic and supervised a lot of dissertations in Islamic economics, and in 2017 He returned back to his university to work in Islamic Economics Institute.

Sh. Dr. Osaid M. A. Kailani

Honorable Sh. Dr. Osaid Muhammad Adeeb Kailani, Global Head, Shari’ah, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Group; Member, Shari’ah Board, AAOIFI Dr. Osaid Kailani, has PhD in comparative Islamic jurisprudence, Post Graduated Diploma in Islamic Shari’a and B. A. in Shari’a and Law. Currently, he is the Global Head of Shari’a in Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (“ADIB”) Group. He is specialized in Shari’a in general and in Islamic banking, Islamic finance, Islamic insurance, and Shari’a auditing in particular. Sheikh Osaid worked for the Faculty of Shari’a and Law in UAE University, before joining ADIB. He has about (21) years of experience in the Islamic banking and in particular in structuring Islamic finance transactions (and syndications and Sukuk), developing Islamic products and tools of investment, in addition to training in the field of Islamic banking.   He is a member of AAOIFI Shari’a Council in Bahrain, a member of Higher Shari’a Authority in the UAE, a member of Advisory Board of International Center of Islamic Economy (ICIE) in Dubai, an expert in the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (Jeddah), a member of Shari’a Board of International Islamic Liquidity Management (IILM) in Malaysia, a member of Shari’a Board of Bosnia International Bank (BBI), an executive member of  Shari›a Committee of Abu Dhabi National Takaful Company (Takaful), and a member of Shari’a Standards Committee (of UAE) which is a subordinate of Shari’a Council of AAOIFI. He has several research papers and presentations in the field of Islamic banking and Takaful, in addition to his participation in many regional and international conferences and seminars especially in Islamic banking and Takaful.

Dr. Shahul Hameed

Dr. Shahul Hameed Mohamed Ibrahim is a Chartered Accountant (Malaysia). He is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK)   (FCCA) and Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIFP). He is a graduate of Kolej Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman College, Kuala Lumpur with a Diploma in Commerce (Financial Accounting). He also holds an MA(Accounting and Finance) from Lancaster University (Accounting and Taxation) and  PhD from the University of Dundee on Islamic Accounting, as well as the Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic Revealed Knowledge from IIUM . He has been teaching for more than 25 years in higher education in both Malaysia and overseas, with another 5 years in practice and industry as an accountant.  He held the position of Head of Accounting at the Department of Accounting   at the Kulliyah of Economics and Management, IIUM and rose from assistant lecturer to Associate professor over 17 years of service in IIUM including undertaking his Masters and PhD degrees. In 2008 he retired from IIUM and joined INCEIF and was promoted to Head of CIFP in 2009 which post he executed until 2012. In January 2015, Dr Shahul left for the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies as visiting professor and in August 2018 to United Arab Emirates University as visiting faculty until December 2015.  Dr Shahul has published a number of journal articles, conference papers and delivered talks in Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Qatar, Jeddah, Yemen, Sri Lanka and India.  He is also the author of the first textbook on Islamic accounting He has conducted training in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Yemen. Dr Shahul had a short stint with AAOIFI as a senior consultant in 2007. He was a Shariah Committee Member of the Malaysian Industrial Development Bank Bhd, a development finance institution set up by the Government of Malaysia, for six years until December 2017. He is currently in the editorial board of the AAOIFI journal and member of the Education Committee of AAOIFI as well as a Trustee/Director in the Farrash Foundation.
