Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain – The Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) has announced that its 24th Annual Shari’ah Boards Conference will be held on 20-21 April at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Kingdom of Bahrain, with the support of the Central Bank of Bahrain.

The conference will witness high-level international participation, bringing together prominent Shari’ah scholars, regulators, and Islamic finance industry experts from across the globe.

As one of the most established and influential forums in the Islamic finance sector, the conference has served for over two decades as a principal platform for harmonising Islamic legal perspectives and enhancing Shari’ah governance in the Islamic financial services industry.

The conference agenda comprises four specialised technical sessions addressing key current contemporary fiqh and technical matters, including:

  • estimating the actual direct cost of Iqrad (lending),
  • the controls governing dual-track syndicated financings, with separate Islamic and conventional tracks,
  • investment in shares of mixed-activity companies, and
  • the permissibility of the exchange of value against a binding commitment.

His Excellency Shaikh Ebrahim bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of AAOIFI, emphasised the significance of the Shari’ah Boards Conference organised by AAOIFI with the support of the Central Bank of Bahrain and several Islamic financial institutions. He highlighted its vital role in guiding the Islamic financial services industry globally over the past 23 years. His Excellency noted that this year’s conference coincides with the 35th anniversary of AAOIFI’s establishment, reflecting a distinguished trajectory of excellence and growth in developing the future of Islamic finance.

The conference is being held at a time of growing international recognition of Islamic finance as a sustainable and credible financial system built on solid ethical foundations. AAOIFI continues to play a pivotal role in developing and standardising Islamic financial practices, with its standards adopted by over 45 regulatory and supervisory authorities in more than 40 countries worldwide.

To promote inclusivity and ensure accessibility for diverse audiences, conference sessions will be available with simultaneous interpretation in Arabic and English. The conference will also be livestreamed via AAOIFI’s digital platforms, including Zoom, YouTube and LinkedIn.
